The challenge

A government-owned energy corporation in Queensland, Australia, responsible for delivering electricity and energy solutions across the state. The organisation owns and operates large-scale power generation assets and is developing a significant portfolio of renewable energy projects.

The client aimed to deliver on the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan (QEJP) target of building, majority-owning, and operating around 10GW of renewable energy generation by 2035. Achieving this required identifying credible development partners, securing buy-in from the market, and establishing consistent commercial frameworks to enable repeatable and efficient project delivery.

Our solution

• Map the Australian renewable developer landscape, identifying ~400 active developers.
• Shortlist developers against co-designed criteria to find those best placed for partnership.
• Engage over 40 shortlisted developers to gauge interest, secure buy-in, and recommend preferred partnership structures.
• Develop standardised term sheets reflecting preferred deal structures to streamline future transactions.

Through this process, Rennie combined strategic insight with hands-on market engagement, ensuring the client had a clear path to forming partnerships that could deliver the 10GW renewable target.
