Achieving a renewable energy target while maintaining value for money

The client is a telecommunications provider in Australia, providing more than 12 million customers with services across Australia each day. With over 6,700 employees across the country, the client offers a wide range of services, including mobile and home phone plans, internet and broadband, entertainment options, satellite services and business solutions.

The client was seeking the development of a renewable energy roadmap that would enable it to achieve its emissions reductions targets for its Scope 2 emissions. The roadmap considered the client’s objectives against the contracting structures available in the market to determine its ideal commercial pathway. This roadmap was presented to executives for endorsement to commence the work outlined within which Rennie is providing ongoing support on. 

Our solution

Designing a roadmap that aligned to the client’s objectives 

Rennie engaged with key stakeholders to share knowledge on the renewable energy contracting market and share case studies of work other similar corporates have done in this space. Eight scenarios were developed which reflected the range of contracting options available in the market. These scenarios were co-assessed using a weighted criteria approach which considered the client’s key objectives. The work also included the development of a financial model to understand the ongoing financial impacts of the roadmap.

Market led insights to inform decision-making

As a result of our work, preferred scenarios were identified and recommended to client executives for approval to progress to the implementation stage of the roadmap. Rennie is now assisting in this implementation stage.
