Our Energy experience

Renewable Energy Developer: Renewable portfolio growth strategy

Our client is a diversified energy business that owns, operates and manages gas transmission pipelines alongside a growing portfolio of renewable generation and storage assets.

The energy transition in Australia has presented a range of choices for our client to scale its renewable portfolio in terms of technology, geography, offtake, and stage of entry. These choices will determine the risks and returns of the future portfolio and our client’s ability to leverage competitive advantage.

State Government Department: Development of Policy, Legislation and Regulations for Renewable Energy Zones

Rennie was engaged to advise on the finalisation of the legislation and drafting of regulations to develop Renewable Energy Zones under announced Government policy. Rennie was also engaged to advise on required amendments to the legislation and regulations.

Jemena Electricity Networks: Development of resilience and replacement capital expenditure business cases

Jemena Electricity Networks is a regulated utility, with its annual revenue forecast approved by the Australian Energy Regulator on a five-year cycle

Jemena is a provider of gas and electricity infrastructure across northern Australia and Australia’s east coast, and owns more than $11 billion worth of major utility infrastructure. The client is responsible for over 11,000km of electricity distribution network lines in North-West Melbourne, servicing more than 370,000 homes and businesses.

Designing and launching new retail energy products through strategic supplier partnerships

Our client sought to grow its retail energy offering for commercial and industrial (C&I) customers. Leadership identified an opportunity to bring new products to market that reflected the changing energy landscape and customer demand for distributed and renewable solutions.

The ambition was clear, but the path was not. To launch effectively, the client needed to define new product propositions, source capable suppliers, and coordinate internal functions for delivery. The challenge was compounded by limited in-house capability to design and operationalise these products from scratch.

Palisade Impact: Regulatory Due Diligence

Palisade Impact is an Australian impact fund, focused on unlisted investments that intentionally target solutions to environmental and social challenges while delivering strong returns.

Rennie was engaged to provide Regulatory Due Diligence to inform Palisade Impact’s investment decision for the acquisition of Energy Locals, an embedded networks business and energy retailer. To support its investment decision, Palisade Impact required an independent view of the current regulatory environment in which Energy Locals operated, an assessment of regulatory reforms and their potential impact on the business, and the identification of regulatory issues.

Owner and Operator of a Natural Gas Distribution Network: Networks strategy

The Client is a natural gas distributor and retailer, delivering natural gas to homes and businesses in Tasmania.

The Client engaged Rennie to provide strategic advisory services to determine how it should respond to evolving energy markets and the future of gas. The Client sought to understand key uncertainties, market trends, and plausible future scenarios to inform diversification options and optimise long-term business positioning.
