Gary Eisner

Gary Eisner is an Associate Director with Rennie, based in Sydney.

With around 20 years of experience in energy policy, regulation, and market development, Gary brings deep expertise in solving complex energy-market challenges in Australia and internationally. His career spans the full policy and regulatory lifecycle, from designing and analysing market frameworks to implementing programs that support large-scale renewable energy uptake, distributed energy resources (DER/CER) integration, and battery and hybrid facility integration into the NEM.

Before joining Rennie, he worked at the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) across Regulatory and Stakeholder Engagement functions. Earlier, he spent 12 years in the NSW Government’s Energy Division developing policies and regulatory frameworks to drive the transition to renewable energy.

His work includes advising government and non-government organisations on CER, connections, and REZ-related regulatory matters, as well as assessing the regulatory and operational requirements of emerging technologies. He is particularly passionate about shaping practical, future-ready policy that balances innovation, reliability, and consumer outcomes, whether through market reform, stakeholder engagement, or building the regulatory foundations for cleaner, smarter grids.

Gary holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Environmental Management.
